Obey The Gospel

“For the time has come for judgment to begin at the house of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the end of those who do not obey the gospel of God?" 1 Pet. 4:17

“in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ." 2 Thess 1:8

Peter and Paul, both inspired apostles of Christ who received direct revelation from heaven, told sinners that a Judgment Day is coming and if they do not OBEY THE GOSPEL of God then there will be a terrible day of vengeance upon their soul.

That phrase, “obey the gospel,” is somehow seen as some kind of dreaded “works salvation” by the vast majority of religious teachers today. The reasoning is that obedience is something one must DO, which makes it a WORK. Most reason (wrongly) that if I have to “do” something to receive God’s grace, then I have “earned” my free gift of God’s grace. Nothing could be further from the truth.

If I offer to give you my house, mortgage free, and told you to come over to receive the keys to the front door, would you think you had earned it by obeying my simple condition of driving over to possess it? How much more to receive God’s free offer of a mansion in heaven (Jn. 14:1-3) is it somehow earned when I reach out in faith (Rom. 10:17), acknowledge my sins (Acts 17:30), confess my Lord (Rom 10:9-10), and allow someone to take my body of sin and bury it in water (Rom. 6:3-5)?

The above steps are God’s requirements to “obey the gospel.

Which leads to one obvious question. Have you, dear sinner, obeyed the gospel, God’s power to your salvation (Rom. 1:16)? Do it before His vengeance at Judgment Day comes in flaming fire.
